Ontario & Rest of Canada

We are pleased to confirm that Betway has launched our sports and casino products in Ontario.  As you are aware, registered operators in Ontario will be held responsible for the marketing activity of their affiliates so we are writing to you now to begin the process of a smooth transition into this new market, and to inform you of the changes or updates we require from you moving forward.  

If you have previously indicated to us that you can or cannot geo-target your promotion of Betway to a provincial level, then you may well have already received direct communication from us detailing your requirements for the launch. Otherwise, you can find all details below – of foremost importance is the ability to geotarget your assets, as it is a necessity that users based in Ontario must not be able to view any content that does not comply with the regulator’s standards. Consequently, if you are planning to promote Betway to the rest of Canada, where we will continue to operate under the Malta Gaming Authority, please ensure your assets are either geotargeted appropriately or that you continue to follow Ontario marking guidelines. 

Promotion within Ontario

Betway in Ontario has moved to betway.ca, and the following guidelines will apply to affiliates: 

• Remove all content mentioning any Betway welcome bonus, or gambling inducements of any kind– this applies to both sports and casino and includes text, banners, screenshots, or any other promotional materials you may have advertising Betway welcome offers to the Ontario market. Please see further details below

• Only partner with other licensed operators – in order to remain compliant, we must ensure that you are not promoting any non-licensed operators within Ontario alongside Betway. Please check with your other CA partners to ensure they are licensed in Ontario. Please confirm back to us in writing that you have done this. The list of licensed operators is available here: http://www.igamingontario.ca/en/player/regulated-igaming-market

• 19+ on sites – please add a 19+ message or icon to your site(s) and/or other promotional materials on which Betway appears

• Responsible gambling messaging – please add messaging to your site(s) and/or other promotional assets to highlight responsible gambling, including a link to www.connexontario.ca

• iGO logo – ensure the iGaming Ontario logo is added to your site/promotions alongside any Betway listing

• Tracking Links – New betway.ca landing pages are now available in Betway Partners under the betway.ca brand, though a sports and casino link have also been included below for your convenience. Please ensure you are using these for your Ontario-facing assets

• Banners – New betway.ca, Ontario-specific banners are now available in Betway Partners under the betway.ca brand. Please ensure you are using these for your Ontario-facing assets and promotions

• Social Media– If you are advertising Betway in Ontario via social media content, please ensure that this is clearly disclosed as an advertisement via the inclusion of “#ad” within said content

Player Migration

• Players of yours within Ontario will be prompted to migrate their account the first time they log in after 1st August

• Migrated players will remain attributed to your account and will continue to earn revenue share if and where applicable to your deal

• To become eligible to play in Ontario, players will be required to undergo additional KYC checks in line with FINTRAC standards. This is a regulatory requirement and customers are not allowed to transact with Betway or any other operator before they are fully verified. We are working on automatic verification solutions and hope to eliminate any waiting time for most of our new and migrating customers

• Players in Ontario must be 19 years old to legally gamble online. 18 year old players currently attributed to your account will be notified that they are not eligible to play until they turn 19. If and when they migrate their account following their 19th birthday, they will remain attributed to your affiliate account

Compliance

IMPORTANT - For monitoring purposes, please respond to this emaillisting out all your affiliate websites that will be available to users based in Ontario. This will allow us to work together to ensure your Betway marketing activity is in line with all regulatory requirements.We have also updated our Betway Partners general Terms as well as the Code of Conduct to ensure compliance and responsible marketing across all territories including Ontario, so please familiarise yourselves with these along with our specific Ontario Marketing Guidelines.

Promotion across the rest of Canada

Betway will continue to operate in the rest of Canada under the Malta Gaming Authority. As such, there are no required changes for your promotions in this area. Please refer to the aforementioned affiliate T&Cs and code of conduct on Betwaypartners.com for further details.Please note though, that separate tracking links must be used for your activity in and outside of Ontario - .com links for the rest of Canada, and .ca links for Ontario.

If you choose to continue to promote outside of Ontario, as mentioned above you must ensure that players located within Ontario are prevented from viewing this marketing. We will be implementing several processes to monitor affiliate content inside and outside of Ontario, and should your assets fail to meet the required standards and protocols, you will be in breach of our T&Cs and we may be forced to end your participation in the affiliate program. Please be aware that we, as an agent on behalf of iGaming Ontario, will be liable for any breaches – even on 3rd party affiliate sites.
