Gambling Advertising Changes – New ASA Guidelines

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has outlined restrictions on UK gambling advertising, as well as limitations on influencer marketing to safeguard young consumers.

These restrictions on gambling ads are set to come into force on the 1st October 2022, as an expansion of the current directive that gambling ads must not be of ‘particular appeal’ to minors. Please note these restrictions will apply to the UK only.

This means that on the 1st of October 2022, Gambling advertisers will not be able to use sports people, reality TV stars and references to video games well known to under-18s, even if they also appeal strongly to adults.

In preparation for these changes taking place on UK gambling advertising, Betway Group (UK) have taken the appropriate steps and have made changes to our marketing assets, onsite creatives, and campaigns in order to remain compliant and follow the new advertising rules coming into effect on the 1st of October 2022.

If you are promoting Betway in the UK, it is imperative that you please review your onsite creative and by the 1st October 2022 you update all your UK marketing material effective immediately to ensure that your promotional material remains compliant. This includes  banners, screengrabs, and additional content.

If you have any questions regarding this or need any new promotional material, please reach out to our support team or your affiliate manager who will be happy to assist.
